Red Booklist gave Red a starred review! Red is a “thoughtful, accessible story” with “strong emotional content,” says the reviewer.
- Red had a big week elsewhere, too. Julie Danielson wrote about the book on her own blog, Seven Impossible Things before Breakfast, and shared some of the artwork. Venus Bradley also reviewed Red on the Children’s Atheneum blog. Bradley shared a couple of spreads from the book, and she had this to say about its message:
What I loved about this story is that this isn’t told from the perspective of the child being bullied, but rather the bystander. Often bullies focus on just one child, but bullies thrive off of public displays of cruelty and how does a child handle a situation when they are just a witness?
- The Wall Street Journal reviewed Just for Today in an article titled “Children’s Books: The Joy of Creature Comforts.” The review highlighted Bimba Landmann’s “dreamlike, allegorical paintings” and the book’s appeal to a broad readership.
- Speaking of Just for Today, Monday marked the one-year anniversary of Saint John XXIII’s canonization. Saint John XXIII was the original author of the “daily decalogue” that Landmann illustrated.
