Forty Days of Crafts: Cross Cookies

Suggested reading: At Jerusalem's Gate
Suggested reading: Jesus

“And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
— Philippians 2:8 (KJV)

This is a great activity to keep children occupied and in one place long enough to share the story of Easter and Jesus’ sacrifice.

Materials:

 • Cross cookie cutter
 • Sugar cookie dough (premade mixes are fine!)
 • Frosting (store-bought frosting is fine!)
 • Sprinkles & decorative icing
 • Cookie sheet
 • Butter knife
 • Rolling pin
 • Wax paper

Step 1: Prepare dough and preheat oven to specified temperature.

Step 2: On a floured surface, roll out cookie dough to about ¼ inch thick. Use cross cookie cutter to stamp cookies out of the dough. Place cookies on baking sheet and cook according to recipe or packaging instructions.

Step 3: When cookies are done, place them on a sheet of wax paper to cool. Let cookies completely cool before putting frosting on them. (If you frost too soon, the frosting will melt off of the cookie.)

Step 4: When cookies are cool, frost and decorate them. (Remember, white frosting can be transformed into any color with just a few drops of food coloring.) Be as creative as you like with decorative frosting and, of course, sprinkles!
