The word ICHTHUS (ἰχθύς), which simply means “fish” in Greek, has been a symbol for Jesus since ancient times. The letters in the Greek word served as an acronym with deep theological meaning for early Christians: “Iēsous CHristos, THeou Yios, Sōtēr” — in English, “Jesus Christ, God’s Son, Savior.”
Create your own reminder of the divine nature of Christ with this simple cardboard mobile.
Materials:
- At least three empty toilet paper rolls
- Scissors
- Markers
- Tape
- Construction paper
- Pipe cleaners
- Yarn
Step 1: Cut construction paper in half, length wise (should be 4 ¼ x 11).
Step 2: Roll construction paper into a tube and tape.
Step 3: Poke holes along the bottom edge every ½ inch.
Step 4: String pipe cleaners through the holes, creating loops.
Step 5: Cut toilet paper rolls into one inch sections and cut the sections open.
Step 6: Cut slits a little more than half way through both ends of each section, making sure that the cuts are on opposite sides of the roll.
Step 7: Color each section as desired. Then take the ends of each and interlock them together to create fish.
Step 8: Poke a hole in each fish and thread yarn through the hole. Then loop the yarn over the pipe cleaner and pull the yarn and the fish through the loop on the other side. Pull down gently to tighten the yarn onto the pipe cleaner.
