“Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called the Passover.”
— Luke 22:1 (ESV)
Help children experience the biblical accounts of the Passover and the Last Supper in a new way with this recipe for unleavened bread.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups wheat flour
- ½ cup white flour
- 1 cup water
- 1/8 cup honey
- ¾ tsp salt
- 1/8 cup vegetable oil
Step 1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2: Place all dry ingredients into a bowl and mix well.
Step 3: Combine honey and vegetable oil in a separate bowl.
Step 4: Slowly add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing well as you go. Once the dough starts getting stiff, alternate between adding a small amount of water and the dry ingredients. Mix all ingredients until thoroughly combined. (Toward the end you will need to knead the dough with your hands.)
Step 5: Place dough on a flour coated counter and roll with a rolling pin (or press with oiled hands) until the dough is about 1/8th of an inch thick.
Step 6: You can cook the unleavened bread at this stage (as would have been done traditionally), or you can take some Easter-themed cookie cutters and cut the dough into shapes. (This additional step may make it a bit more fun for the little ones.)
Step 7: Place cut out shapes onto a greased cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes.
