News from Eerdmans & Elsewhere
-
Crazy Sue Morris at the Kid Lit Reviews blog gave Crazy by Linda Vigen Phillips a positive review. “Crazy moved me and I hope it moves you,” she wrote.
- The Amazing Age of John Roy Lynch was featured on a “Booklandia Radio” edition of the Techlandia podcast. Colby Sharp recommended the book as a remarkable story that will take many by surprise. As author Chris Barton mentioned in a blog post, you can hear the host’s surprise “when he realizes that the story of Lynch’s 10-year rise from slavery to the U.S. House of Representatives during Reconstruction is nonfiction rather than historical fiction.”
- The Amazing Age of John Roy Lynch was also in the news for earning a Silver Honor from Parents’ Choice. Two other EBYR books were recognized by Parents’ Choice as well: Brother Hugo and the Bear earned a Recommended honor, and The Sheep Go on Strike earned a Recommended honor as well.
- The Right Word was included in the 2014 Distinguished Books list from The Association of Children’s Librarians of Northern California (ACL).
- Last week we reported that he was getting a statue. This week we learned that he’s getting a movie. That’s right: Voytek, the famous fighting bear from World War II and hero of Soldier Bear, will have a major motion picture created based on his story.

Voytek deserves this movie. What a great story Soldier Bear is and this movie, if it pays attention to this book, should be wonderful!
